• TIER 4
Essex College & Tier 4
More than 520 universities and colleges
have applied to join the new sponsorship register which
will allow them to bring foreign students into Britain
to study.
By registering as licensed sponsors
they are pledging to take responsibility for any foreign
student they bring here under Tier 4 of the points-based
system.
Under this system all colleges and universities that
want to recruit foreign students will need a licence
to do so and will have to take greater responsibility
for the international students they bring here. This
will weed out those bogus colleges who abuse the system.
The system will also ensure that foreign
students wanting to take advantage of Britain's world
class universities and colleges play by the rules.
Under the new system international
students will have to be sponsored by a UK Border Agency
licensed education institution, prove that they have
the means to support themselves and their families,
and supply their fingerprints The tough new student
route means Britain can continue to recruit good students
from outside Europe while cracking down on those who
seek to abuse the system.
For the first time education providers face a ban on
bringing over international students if they fail to
follow strict new rules, including alerting the UK Border
Agency if students fail to enrol.
The home office has confirmed that
Essex College qualify as a college that conform to these
strict guidelines.
• ASIC
Essex College & Accreditation Services for
International Colleges (ASIC)
Essex College is pleased to announce
that it has been accepted and accredited by the Accreditation
Service for International Colleges (ASIC) as an approved
educational establishment in the UK.
• What
is ASIC?
International migration of international students is
now at an unprecedented level. No longer is this the
domain of countries such as UK, Australia, USA, Canada
and New Zealand but students are now looking at study
options in Malaysia, Singapore, China, Ukraine, Russia,
Greece, Cyprus and most of the EU countries.
This is giving the student a wider choice in relation
to a range of subjects, entrance criteria, cost, types
of institution and cultural experience.
The market is growing, but so is the number of educational
institutions seeking to recruit these students.
It is very difficult for students to
get a realistic and honest picture of what an institution
is really like in terms of quality, resources, student
support and ethics.
ASIC has been formed to bring this
independent information to the student population through
its accreditation service with well defined and objective
benchmarking.
Accreditation through ASIC will help the student and
parent make a more informed choice and will also help
a college/university demonstrate to the marketplace
that they are a high quality institution.
The UK Government identified the need for a more rigorous
system for accrediting education institutions involved
in recruiting overseas students. Accordingly, a proposal
for the mandatory accreditation of education providers,
wishing to bring overseas students into the UK, was
included in the
Government's Command Paper "A Points Based System:
Making Migration Work for Britain".
